Mumbai: Employers or companies cannot separate ‘special allowance’ from basic salary for calculating provident fund contributions, recent Supreme Court ruling said. The ruling is targeted against HR practices wherein ‘normal salary allowances’ are camouflaged as ‘special allowance’ to avoid provident fund deduction.
